Question 1

Work-related stress is one of the common issues affecting an employee's health status and expected work output. The work-related experience that I have witnessed is tight deadlines. The organization was young, and due to their desire to compete with the established companies in the region, it had to develop tight deadlines for work output that each department had to achieve within a particular time. The most affected department was marketing because of stiff competition from other companies. The department workers were characterized by the fear of being laid off, lack of control, trouble concentrating, and social withdrawal. In most cases, the department employees were often stuck in a difficult situation due to ever-increasing demand from the management related to work productivity. By the time I resigned from the company, most of the marketing department workers had reassigned.

The stress event that would be most stressful for me to experience at work is discrimination. The world is currently characterized by diversity in color, religion, traditions, and even regions. Through stories shared in magazines and social media, I view that work stress related to discrimination is stressful. In my perspective, being discriminated against because you are Muslim, Christian, White, or Black at the workplace can result in psychological problems. Continuous discrimination can cause health challenges such as heart disease, mental health problems, low self-esteem problems, or even suicide.

Work-related stress is unhealthy, and thus, one needs to focus on methods that can reduce its effects. One of the strategies that one can utilize is turning to co-workers for support. One needs to share their problems with co-workers who can listen and offer support through advice or engagement in a social group. Another strategy that one can apply is seeking support from family and friends. Supportive friends and family members are essential in managing stress due to closeness and their willingness to offer assistance.

Question 2

Post-stress events are associated with being exposed to a hectic situation previously. Post-stress events need to be managed to live a peaceful life without emotional flashbacks related to the stress experienced earlier. One of the effective strategies that can be utilized is mindfulness meditation. Meditation-based relaxation techniques help in reducing avoidance related to a traumatic experience such as discrimination or over-supervision work experience. The common mindfulness-based methods that can be used are cognitive therapy, exposure therapy, and mediation-relaxation. Secondly, one can deal with post-stress events through physical activity. Finding a physical activity that one can enjoy and perform regularly reduces the stress levels and coping up with the symptoms. Thirdly, one can utilize the aromatherapy method. Consumption of essential oils helps in the reduction of symptoms related to post-stress events. Massaging one's pulse points using essentials has a calming effect that helps create favorable conditions in mind and body, leading to natural healing from past stressful events. The fourth method of dealing with post-stress events is art therapy. The method entails externalizing emotions and coping with distressing memories through artwork such as sculpture or painting. The creation of concrete images helps reintegrate the right and left hemispheres, thus reducing the effects of stress that one had experienced. Lastly, engaging in voluntary activities can help in dealing with post-stress events. Volunteering in community work or helping people in need is an effective way to connect with others and consequently reclaim their sense of control.

The strategy that I view works best for me is undertaking voluntary activities, primarily geared towards helping people with needs. Engaging in voluntary programs provides room for connecting with others and sharing experiences. As such, it acts as a model for releasing the previous painful experience. The least useful strategy is art therapy. Painting or engaging in sculpture work is not part of my hobbies, and thus, it will be difficult for me to use them since they can result in more stressful events trying to learn how to draw or being taught sculpture work.
