Our society holds different perceptions regarding the issue of preschoolers owning cell phones. The truth remains that this issue has its advantages and disadvantages as well. Nevertheless, my opinion is that preschoolers should have cell phones based on the following reasons. Although many parents struggle with children and cell phones, children owning cell phones is essential for learning responsibility. Most cell phones are expensive hence treasured devices (Davie et. al, 2004). In return, children learn to take care of these gadgets and tend to improve their ability to be responsible. Moreover, as a parent one can use cell phones to teach their preschoolers about budgeting and accounting.

Additionally, cell phones support social media platforms that would be essential for the preschoolers to keep in touch with their friends, which will increase social interaction as well. This aspect would be important for children who have difficulty making friends. Also, preschoolers owning cellphones would improve their safety and security (Christensen et. al, 2011). Through learning how to use cell phones, children can easily make alerts in case of a safety issue at home, at the library or any other environment. Also, it would improve parents’ peace of mind when they can easily locate their children.

Moreover, preschoolers owning cell phones would provide educational support through mobile learning. In this case, cell phones easily access the internet, which has rich research resources including tutorials, educative films and theoretic materials that would improve their learning skills. Moreover, through online platforms, preschoolers would get the benefit of shaping their talents and skills in different activities. Nevertheless, considering the disadvantages of preschoolers owning cell phones, parents are advised to restrict the use of the internet to protect their children from cyberbullying and cell phone addiction which would pose a threat to their education as preschoolers (Mishna et. al, 2009). Also, cell phones would be a sure distraction socialization, school work, and other activities among preschoolers. Therefore, parents should be advised to integrate policies governing the usage of cell phones especially be preschoolers.
