There are a number of reasons leading to the movement of people into the USA without using proper channels. Illegal immigrants lack any legal documentation provided by the destination country. Historically people have been moving into the USA from various parts of the world. While some of these movements have been legal, there have been effects on the economy and the living situation of the people of the USA.
Judging from past events, poverty intertwined in crises in other countries, lead illegal immigration into the USA (Madaan, 2019). For instance, the establishment of NAFTA (the North America Free Trade Agreement) in 1994 lead to an economic crisis in Mexico. The Mexican peso was lowly valuated against the US dollar. The result was a rapid increase of illegal immigrants from Mexico between the year 1995 and the mid-2000s seeking better living and income. Wars and political instabilities in neighboring countries have led to unlawful movement into the USA (Madaan, 2019). When people flee war-torn places, they are granted asylum as refugees in other countries. Those denied asylum in the USA, they are required to leave the country. At this juncture, some people in such situations decide to remain and live as illegal immigrants.

Families that find it hard to reunite through legal means opt to illegally immigrate their loved ones into the USA (Madaan, 2019). Re-unification visas provided by the immigration department are limited and subject to annual quotas. In a recent case, over 400 families were separated when president Trump’s regime effected the ‘zero-tolerance’ operation to fish out illegal immigrants (Miller, 2018).
Another cause of illegal immigration is overpopulation in origin countries. Overpopulation beyond the capacity of resources such as wealth, water, land, jobs and other guarantors of good living leads to movements out (Madaan, 2019). For example, the largest portion of immigrants into the USA are from Mexico, pushed out by lack of jobs and resources. The economy of Mexico has been curtailed by drug cartels making its yield insufficient for its population.
It has been debatable, that the effects of illegal migration, or rather migration into the USA has both positive and negative effects. It is hard to discern the extent to which positive impact is caused by legal or illegal immigration. However, some of the impacts of illegal immigration are evident as discussed here. Illegal immigration cause strains on public resources (Madaan, 2018). When illegal immigrants use public utilities such as schools, transportation, and other facilities they upset the plan used to develop these facilities. This causes insufficiency of resources or needs for more input from the legal taxpayers.
Controversially, cheap labor provided by the illegal migrant has contributed to the growth of the USA economy (Penn Wharton, 2016). Illegal immigrants are less choosy when in need of jobs to provide a steady income. They agree to work on less pay, regardless of the technicality, hardness and hazards the job exposes them to. This has enabled employers to fill the roles dropped by US citizens who are also fond of filing suits for injuries or perceived injustices. Similarly, US citizens are losing jobs to immigrants. The most affected were those without a diploma or higher education. Illegal immigrants are willing to work as unskilled laborers for little pay (Penn Wharton, 2016). Some Americans believe that the roles played by illegal immigrants are supposed to offer experience to the youth before formal employment. However, Americans with higher education are least affected. Most are employed in sectors requiring certification and great communication skills, which most immigrants lack (Madaan, 2019)
The government is losing tax revenue due to the employment of illegal immigrants (Madaan, 2019). Employers avoid turning in records or payment information for labor provided illegal immigrants. Some companies thrive through this strategy that allows them to reduce prices to consumers as they do not have to pay for social security fund, insurances, and tax. However, this is impeding to the government's projects and funding for projects that benefit everyone. Finally, Illegal immigrants contribute significantly to the rise in terrorism and criminal activities (Madaan, 2019). For example, the MS-13 gang, which is composed of illegally emigrated individuals from Central America. Also, the lack of proper monitoring of people entering the USA has to lead to the entry of terrorists into the country. As a result, the security of US citizens and legal migrants comes under threat.
In conclusion, it is hard to track and prosecute illegal immigrants living in the USA. With more effects added to the above discussed, illegal immigration has a significant impact on the economy and well-being of Americans. However, it has been a common occurrence that most countries in the world have not been able to deal with.
