“ The Declaration of Independence” is a significant document in the history of America as it delineates the motives for the pronouncement of the colonies’. The two key concepts or ideas in that document that will feature in this paper are freedom and the powers of the federal government.
Freedom
The document discusses the aspect of freedom in details. At the beginning of the piece, we see the author’s concept on how the people should exercise their democracy by cutting the cord that links them to bad governance and to instead apply the liberty given to them by their creator. Here, the author of the document tries to show the people that they are people who should exercise their freedom and resist anyone who tries to dominate over them as this is a right that is given to them by their God. For this reason, he sees no sense in a human being coming in the name of rulership trying to assert his will upon the people regardless of their view. The document, therefore, proposes to the people that they should not allow Governments that are instituted by people just as them to overrun their Safety and Happiness.

The aspect of freedom as brought out in the document relates to the current attack on the freedom of the press by the current president of the United States. In his statements, Donald Trump has time and again referred to the media as “fake media” among other comments (Barria, 2017). The media is an important feature in the freedom of the country as it acts as a spotlight for the undertakings of the government, therefore, preventing the chances of bad governance. Trump’s attitude towards the media can be changed by having professionals advising him accordingly regarding the role and the significance of the media to the sovereignty of the people of the land.
The Powers of the Federal Government
The document brings out this element as it shows how the Government takes power into its hands and indulges in activities that are harmful to its citizens. The author tries to bring out the idea that Federal Government should run the country with the consideration for the plight of its people. As a result, it inflicts much suffering on its people through abuse and usurpation. We see how the Government of the King of Britain uses his powers over the people of the land and how much it oppresses them just to remain relevant. We see how he refuses to work with the governing bodies for the good of the people and instead chooses to frustrate their efforts to improve the welfare of Britons. What we see in the end is that the people become frustrated and demand a change of governance for the sake of their interests.
The Powers of the Federal Government are brought out by Yoder as he discusses Trump’s plan to reduce work positions for the federal workers (2016). This however was his plan during his campaigns. Though this was his plan then, this matter has been in the language of the reigning Presidents as they have found it as a means of reducing the public budget (Yoder, 2016). Another undertaking by Trump is to repeal Obamacare, meaning that many citizens will return to their former position of not being able to access affordable health care. This means that these steps will only subject the American citizens into suffering and unhappiness as their livelihoods will be negatively affected. This can be changed by maintaining the jobs of the poor federal employees and working towards an affordable health care plan for the citizens.
