Part 1

The success of team work is usually accessed during meetings. From the dysfunctions, I have witnessed the impact of dysfunction 10 which asserts the importance of team work and discussion during a meeting. At one instance, I was part of team that was tasked to do separate research on various issues that affect the elderly in the community. After the research, we were supposed to meet and discuss our field experiences and propose solutions. During the team meeting, some team members were shy at sharing their failures at the field since they thought that it reflected on their personal inadequacies.

Part 2

The team resolved the issues by encouraging everyone to be assertive and confident of their abilities. We were informed that the assessment of our abilities was not to grade us with a ‘wrong’ or a ‘right’ but to access how we would approach real life study situation. The team was also informed that much of the solutions to the problems lied with us. After that, the meeting was productive, with many students learning how to create rapport, how to construct questionnaires for qualitative and quantitative analysis. The meeting reinforced the importance of sharing challenges of a team, for finding solutions.

Part 3

Dysfunction 1: Absence of Trust = 9 points

The absence of trust in a team shows that the team is incoherent. Lack of cohesion points to deeper problems: inability to work together, share challenges and find solutions. It is a reprieve that the score is 9. This indicates that the team is trusting towards each other (Lencioni, 2002).

Dysfunction 2: Fear of Conflict = 7 points

The fear of conflict shows that the team is united, and oriented towards finding solutions. Strong scores on dysfunction seven and 1 shows solidarity of the team. The team is ready to work together to achieve its purpose, and is also not so boring.

Dysfunction 3: Lack of Commitment = 8 points

The scores indicate willingness to commit by every team member towards achieving the greater purpose. Commitment from every member builds trust and confidence that the team is heading towards success.

Dysfunction 4: Avoidance of Accountability = 9 points

The team takes responsibility to every individual’s actions. The plans and approaches of every individual are tested and weighed against the objectives of the team. Currently, the team is strongly oriented towards success.

Dysfunction 5: Inattention to Results = 8 points

The team is strongly dedicated towards getting results. This is evident from their increased team work, attention to details and commitment. The team is also accountable and each team member plays as an element that is dependent to another.
