Introduction

When growing up, every individual had a hero in mind, who served as a person that persons would look up to moving into the future. Personally, I viewed a hero as a person who would always be there when you need him and always have an answer to many notable risks. A hero, or heroine (female), is a concept that was contoured within classical literature referring to a person that understands the need for having to lay his life for others. In other words, a hero can be considered as an individual that takes notable risks for the greater good of other persons in the community. The following is a personal definition of what I think would define an individual as a hero or heroine.

Service to Others

Firstly, a hero is an individual that teaches the value of serving others regardless of the existing differentiations or diversities. When considering the definition of heroes that every individual may have, it is clear that this individual does not discriminate or select those that he intends to help. Instead, the individual is always ready and willing to offer his assistance to all regardless of their status or position within the society. It becomes clear that a hero should always learn the importance of considering every person as being equal; thus, creating a situation where it becomes much easier to offer help.

Self-Sacrificing

Secondly, a hero is an individual that takes undeniable risks while facing potential loss at a personal level. In every instance where a hero is offering his assistance, what is clear is that the hero tends to put his life in danger for the sake of others. In some cases, the risks may result in physical injuries considering that some of the risks are physical in nature. For example, when an individual enters a burning building to help a person that has been trapped, he or she puts his life in danger for the sake of the person that has been trapped. However, a hero does not consider his own safety but works towards ensuring that others are safe at all times.

Humility

Lastly, a true hero can be defined as an individual that shows humility regardless of the fact that he or she may have engaged in actions towards helping others. It is a common occurrence of persons to brag about actions aimed at saving others with the aim being towards projecting themselves from a hero’s standpoint. However, a true hero does not show any form of pride for his actions, instead, letting others recognize his or her actions. True heroes often appreciate the honor that is bestowed on them with the aim being towards building on their value on humility as a virtue that people ought to appreciate.

Conclusion

From the analysis, it is clear that the definition of a hero may differ from one person to another depending on what one may seek to reflect upon when trying to define a person as a hero. Personally, I tend to focus on the idea of a hero from three different aspects. Firstly, I focus on the extent to which the individual is willing to offer service to others. Secondly, I consider the level of self-sacrifice that the individual would be willing to project in a bid to being considered as a hero. Lastly, I believe that a hero should always be humble regardless of his or her abilities to help others.
