At one point in our lives, as we pass through the education system, a time comes when we choose to decide to live at home while going through college or relocate and live at the college. This decision presents itself typically to people who get a chance to get administered to college near their homes. While a dilemma might present itself when choosing where to stay during college education, here is a comparison of how life is like when living at home and living at the college.

Some of the advantages of living at the college include the following:

Making more friends and connections and meeting new people (Pros and cons of living on campus vs living at home, n.d). When you stay at the college, the chances are that you will have a lot of time to spare to walk around and interact more with new people. After classes, if you were staying at home, the chances are that you would head back straight home. However, living in college is a chance to connect more, not only with classmates but also with roommates. This choice goes a long way in creating deeper connections—some of the friendships people develop during college stick throughout their adult lives.

You are saving time for classes. Living at the college gives one the luxury of waking up 30 minutes before class time and make it on time. You do not get to waste a lot of time on the road. Get stuck in traffic which, means waking up very early, especially if you have morning classes. Also, in the evening, one has a lot of time to catch up more on classwork in the library. Independence also comes with staying at college. One learns to survive on their own without a lot of support from family. This situation goes a long way in building a strong character.

The disadvantages of staying in college usually are a lot of distractions (Pros and cons of living on campus vs living at home, n.d). With a lot of freedom, one can find themselves getting too distracted hence slagging off to catch up with school work. A lot of space combined with the lousy company eventually leads to bad grades. Students might develop bad habits like doing drugs and partying every night, which can be a dent in their character.

Living at home comes with the following advantages. Living at home provides privacy. When staying at the college, one usually has roommates in most cases. This circumstance reduces privacy for oneself, and sometimes if you get unlucky and get a roommate who is challenging to get along with, then life becomes a little challenging. Living at home also reduces the financial obligations associated with staying in college, such as food. Hence one focuses on paying the tuition fees, which are generally high (Pros and cons of living on campus vs living at home, n.d.). One has no option but to eat healthy when staying at home. Another advantage of living home is that you enjoy healthier options provided by the parents instead of fast food that college students like to indulge n. Finally, when one is living at home, there is always a shoulder to lean on in support of the family, making life a little better during tough times. The main disadvantage of living at home is that the freedom of an individual is quite limited, in terms of hanging out with friends very late in the night, and going to parties, something that students who live in college enjoy.

In conclusion, living at the college and home while going through college have their equal share of advantages and disadvantages to a student. It is always a tradeoff moistly between choosing freedom and saving on finances. While most students prefer to stay at the college, staying at home is still not a bad idea as nothing compares to a family's love, care and support during those challenging times.
