Is it important for the UAE?

The study is vital for the UAE because more than 70 percent of teenagers spend at least 5 hours or more on social media, which is a concern based on the rising cases of mental health disorders among teenagers.

What is your research question?

My research question is: "To what extent is social media to blame over the prevalence of mental health disorders among teenagers."

How did you search for your sources? Did you use HCT library facilities?

My research sources are based on the HCT library facilities as well as Google. I will rely on both primary and secondary sources for this research.

How can you be sure that these are reliable sources?

I have found the resources to be reliable because they are peer-reviewed articles written for students and teachers by researchers. I am also relying on newspaper and magazine articles written by well-established newspapers.

How did you conduct your primary research? (what was the main research method?)

I used questionnaires as my primary research method, where I interviewed 20 parents on the effects social media has had on their children.

What kind of data did you get (qualitative or quantitative)?

The type of data that I got my research was quantitative.

Who were the respondents of your survey?

The respondents in the survey were parents of teenagers who were twenty in number.

What was the population of your survey?

The population of my survey was parents whose children were less than 20 years old.

What kind of sampling method did you use?

The sampling method that I used was based on the convenience sampling method. I used this method because it was easier to locate the parents of teenagers in my local neighborhood.

What was your sample size?

My sample size was twenty.

Did you use a consent form? What did you say in it?

Yes, I did use a consent form. The elements that I included in my consent form were:

A statement as to why I was conducting the research and an explanation as to why I was conducting the research.

A description of any risk that can be of discomfort to the subject.

A statement on the benefits of the research to the subject.

A statement that informed the subjects that providing information to be used in the study was voluntary.

Describe your main results

From my study, I found out that social media was leading of cause of depression in more than 55 percent of teenagers. I also found out that parents are on the frontline, taking time to communicate with their children on the harmful effects of social media.

How do you results compare to what you read in your secondary research?

My results compare from what I read in secondary research that the effects of social media may cause a range of social and developmental factors that may affect the mental health of teenagers.

Did you expect your results?

Yes, I did. The study was proof that social media has negative effects on teenagers.

What are the main conclusions of your study?

From my study, I found out that social media poses unforeseen risks to teenagers, such as cyberbullying. Parents, therefore, should be able to monitor the activities of their children on social media and not let their lives dwell so much on social media websites.

Have you found an answer to your research question? What is it?

The answer to my research question is that irrespective of its advantages, if uncontrolled, social media may cause mental health problems among teenagers. There is a lot of violence on social media, and this makes it harder for parents to lead their children in the right direction.

What are the main recommendations of your research?

The implication of my research is that: First, parents should educate themselves on the use of social media and the risks associated with them. Second, parents should be at the forefront in engaging with their teenagers on positive discussions that can result in less risky online behaviors.

If you had an opportunity, how would you develop your research?

In developing my research, I would first identify the topic to focus on and then develop a topic statement. This will be followed by a thorough review of relevant and related literature in examining the topic and finding the right approach to analyze it. I will also look for sources that can help broaden my perspective and arguments. Finally, I would create an outline for my paper that will be responsible for laying down the foundation of my thoughts.

What else would you like to research?

I would like to research the impacts of social media usage on organizational performance.
