Writing anxiety is a term used to describe several uneasy and negative feelings about writing (Lew & Tang, 2017). I am no exception of writer's anxiety. It may give a feeling that one is a lousy writer since I sometimes have terrific ideas but relatively poor execution in the paper. It, however, turns out that I am not a poor writer; I was just an anxious writer. I find writing poetry quite unpleasant especially since it involves writing something meaningful while still being emotional to the message intended to be passed. Another aspect to writing poetry that creates a lot of apprehensions is keeping of rhythm which results mostly in writer’s block.
To overcome the anxiety, I identified several techniques that help alleviate the anxiety. First is to start writing (Lew & Tang, 2017). I learned that in writing, half the task is solved after starting to write. A lot of practice is also essential in the making of a good writer and one who has minimal or no episodes of writer's block (Lew & Tang, 2017). Support from friends who are good at what seems unpleasant to me also helps a lot. I occasionally talk to my friends on the ideas I have and listen to their advice on how best to flesh out the ideas and get them flowing. One other technique I have learned is embracing what I do best and acknowledging that writing is not always smooth and that I need to do my best at all times.

The techniques helped in overcoming the writer's anxiety, especially in poetry. By embracing my best, starting up on what I need to work on and talking to friends and experts on my ideas, I realized that I am progressing positively as a writer and getting better at it by the day. I am also able to meet deadlines easily and have a good workflow and better rhythm in my work (Lew & Tang, 2017). It is however quite challenging to start up something not well thought out and can be frustrating when the result is a writeup with a messy flow.
