The increasing population over decades all around the world has increased the number of problems that people undergo. One of the biggest problems that humanity faces currently is homelessness. Many people have been rendered homeless due to various factors such as war, overpopulation among others. In order tackle the situation, several campaigns should be launched with an aim of settling the homeless and providing shelter. Despite efforts that have been put by various organizations all over the world, a lot still needs to be done to salvage the situation since the campaigns have not been successful to completely settling the issues. There are however some things that can be done to help the homeless and make their lives far much better.
Starting a homeless center is the first step towards ensuring that the homeless get shelter where their welfare can be looked into by volunteers such as well-wishers and governmental organizations. Establishing one central location in which all the activities and the needs will also be considered does the work of providing social amenities easy compared to locating scattered individuals in a wider area. Hygiene caused by lack of proper food can also be enhanced by the provision of canned food as opposed to dishing out money, since giving away money can lead to spending it on drugs and other dangerous substances. With security being a primary concern, a homeless center can easily be monitored for any factor which might put the lives of the people in danger.

Poverty levels in the neighborhood need be eliminated by creating job opportunities for the homeless. Lack of proper employment is one of the root causes of homelessness in developed countries. Engaging the homeless in community programs which are paid can, therefore, provide income for the homeless, can reduce the number of individuals living in the street. Economic inequalities in countries such as the US have led to other people being homeowners while others are languishing in poverty in streets of various cities (WILKINSON, n.d). Engaging in conversation with the affected population will help in acquiring the information about what they are good and finding a job based on the profession or passion of that particular individual. Little public assistance is one of the root causes of the increasing number of low-income families who move to the street. Increasing the amount of funding by the community organizations will solve the problem as many people will afford necessities and even rent a shelter. Lack of enough housing in urban areas is a disadvantage to the poor in the society (naehblog, 2014). With this in mind, the development of affordable housing units and policies to govern the sector will be helpful to the needy. Through the implementation of assistance programs which stabilizes people, provision of accommodation and sound housing policies, the problem of homelessness will not only be reduced but the economic empowerment of the poor families will be improved and a secure society established.
Drug and substance abuse is a known hazard not only to health but the mental stability of individuals as well. Ensuring that a person who abuses drugs is counseled and dispossessed of the substances that they consume will not only improve the health of that person but will also bring back the mental health to normal. Most of the street communities use drugs as a method of hiding sorrow and grief caused by uncountable problems that they face daily. With the generosity of various individuals and organizations, people with these problems can be taken to rehabilitation centers where their problems will be attended to professionally (Trejo, 2015).
